D.C United – Transfer Centre

After assessing the squad I knew that we needed a new goalkeeper, a striker, a right back and possibly a centre back. You need the core of your team to be solid and while D.C United had a solid midfield with the likes of Luciano Acosta, Paul Arriola, Zoltan Stieber and Russell Canouse dominating for large periods during games…we only had Patrick Mullins up front to score us goals.

So Kim Dong-Jun was my first signing and at £150,000 and I believe he was an absolute bargain. A solid, well-rounded goalkeeper who had 6 caps for South Korea at the time of his signing with the potential to improve.

Daniel Furlong was signed from Queens Park Rangers for £975,000. I believe that the price was a good one for both clubs. He adds strength and depth to my defence and I am confident that he will develop with us at D.C United.

Carraca was signed from Boavista for £150,000 and added a midfield presence that we just didn’t have. He could pass, he could tackle and he had no problem getting up and down the pitch for us. More strength and depth, which, is important in MLS because of the way the schedule works. It’s intense and I was delighted to welcome him to the club.

Last but not least, Brandon Barker was added purely because he was available on a free transfer and I just couldn’t allow him to go elsewhere. A versatile midfielder that still added more quality to an already strong midfield. Unfortunately his wages meant that I had to bring him in as a discovery/designated player but I felt he was worth it as he had more than enough potential left to improve.

Unfortunately I couldn’t find a striker to sign during the transfer window so I had to place my faith in the draft system. Patrick Mullins is a good striker and I will just have to manage him and rotate well throughout the season to ensure he is available for the big games. I used the draft and waiver system as best I could in order to flesh out the squad.

Very exciting times are going to come to a club that could potentially become the MLS club I start supporting in real life. Time to kick on and get the season started!
